Rules
Boots or shoes with a clearly defined heel and long pants must be worn while in the arena.
A western saddle must be used while in the arena.
Use of any illegal substance of any kind is strictly prohibited on the grounds. One warning will be given; any repeat offense will result in automatic dismissal of the rider and/or guest(s). No points or refund will be given to the rider for that day.
The use of profanity or abusive language by any contestant will result in disqualification from that event and could result in disqualification from the entire event.
The contestant shall have one minute to be at the gate of the arena after his/her name is called. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from that event.
Rider will have one minute on the timer to secure called cow into the small pen or rider will be given a no time.
There will be no running of a horse outside the arena, with the exception of inside the warm up arena, and then only for the purpose of warming up the horse (no racing or reckless running). There will be no running into or out of the arena. This is for the safety of all riders and animals.
There will be no refunds after entries are paid.
If a timer or cattle failure occurs, the rider has the option for a re-ride with a new random cow.
Cattle failure is described as a cow refusing to move forward. Failure is not from a cow being too fast or difficult. This call is final and made by a VHV official.
Once a cow has been removed for failure, it is considered a trash cow and will not be called for the remainder of the event.
Any act of discourtesy or disobedience toward any Official, in and out of the arena, will result in disqualification for the duration of the event.
After crossing the timer, a rider has a maximum of one minute to get the called cow into the small pen.
Time will stop when the riders and the called number cow is controlled in the small pen AND then the riders raises their hand.
A cow is considered controlled in the pen if it cannot leave without rider choosing. (Ex. Called cow and trash are inside the small pen. Rider goes to remove trash but called cow runs out quickly behind trash. Even though called cow was alone in the pen, rider was unable to control/hold called cow without trash.)
No trash cows allowed in the small pen or time will not stop.
A rider may ride a different horse in each event. However if two or more horses are entered in the same event, you must designate which horse is your point horse for the day.
The contestant or the contestant’s legal guardian must sign all entries and release form before entering the arena.
There will be two officials watching each event. Their decision is final.
In the event of a tie, the monies will be divided equally.
Excessive punishment or inhumane treatment of any horse or cow at any time shall result in disqualification for the duration of the event. VHV Ranch will determine what constitutes excessive punishment or inhumane treatment. NO EXCEPTIONS.
VHV Ranch is the final authority on any discrepancies that may arise.
There will be no riding double in any arena unless a signed release for both riders is on file.
